Can tics in tourettes be caused by a magnesium disorder?
My son is 5 and has tics. His doctor said that it is all signs of tourettes. He goes back to the doc in Nov for the diagnosis. I asked his doctor if he could have a magnesium defeciency and she said that it was not very likely. I am still being pressured by family to give my son a magnesium suppliment . He is not complaining of the tics at all. Some days they are really severe and others we hardly notice them at all. What can I do other than ignore it like the doc said and don’t worry about meds until my son is complaining of the tics.
Put him on magnesium anyway, there really isn’t any harm, most people are pretty deficient to begin with. Worth a try. Me and my mother take it for muscle spasms, it works pretty well.

Put him on magnesium, no hesitation.
Where are the tics located ??
They could be psychological … Tourette is not always a very convincing diagnosis.
Let him see a psychiatrist.

Talk to a dietician or a 2nd doctor and see what they think. And make sure you find an appropriate dose for your son before you start giving him a supplement.

Some "muscle" spasms do come from a magnesium deficiency. You can’t talk to your doctor about these things because they are trained to treat symptoms. That means, you see this, give this med. They are pill pushers.
You can give him some magnesium and see what happens.
