My daughter was just diagnosed with a motor tic. She only tics when she is excited about about something. We were told to record her. In this video she is on playhousedisney.com making a slide for the characters to go down. As they go down the slide she really starts tic-ing, when they are done, she will make another slide and again start tic-ing when they go down. At the end and anytime she tics, if we ask her something she will always stop and talk but 9 times out of 10 will go back to the ticing. Over the past month she has also started jumping as she does this.
Any advice would be wonderful!

I am 19 years old and have been having movement problems every since I was 2. They have gradually gotten worse over the years. I have been diagnosed with Essential Tremor, Motor Tic Disorder, and Dystonia. I feel as though none of these cover what I experience. I believe it looks more like myoclonus. I do have a tremor not evident in this video though. If anyone has any suggestions as to what this may be please feel free to comment.

As requested, some recommended reading in the form of a book called ‘Tictionary: A Reference Guide to the World of Tourette Syndrome, Asperger Syndrome, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder for Parents and Professionals’ by Becky Ottinger.

The second half of the video is some important advice to all parents and carers of any children who suffer from rage attacks. I speak from experience as the sufferer. (When I say ‘for the rest of their lives,’ from my own personal experience I obviously can only say ‘for many years’ but it has had a deep impact on my and keeps haunting me when I feel really down.

I’ve wanted to do this for a while - a visual represenation of what I feel (not see) all the time and how I touch things (or ‘distance touch’ things - see videos ‘Complex phantom tics’ and ‘Synesthesia relating to Tourette’s’) in order to ‘even things up’ and try to get rid of the ‘patches of tension’ (phantom tics).

Please note: this is an overly-simplified version. It’s far, far more complicated (and uncomfortable) than balancing circles!

I would have done a much better job of showing the ‘patches’, but this is as good as my video editing software will allow me to make it.

(But why did I do it on an Airwolf DVD boxset? lol)

Silent text version of ‘The Degree to Which Tics are Involuntary’. This version is clearer, more concise and contains more information.

Some people have asked me why some tics can be held back while others can’t. Here is an explanation of the degree to which tics are involuntary. It also explains why some people say their tics are completely involuntary and uncontrollable while other people say they are more like compulsions and that they can hide them.

When I talk about the involuntary sensations, these are what are known as ’sensory tics’ and ‘premonitory urges’.
