How do I get the courage to see a psychiatrist?
I’m really self conscious that I’d be judged or something; I go to a college where they have one in the health and wellness center so it wont cost anything, but I can’t bring myself to say out loud that I might have a problem.
I have to talk to the secretary or the front desk guy but I don’t know if you only go to the shrink if you are already in dire need (ie suicidal and that alike); I’m not there yet but I shouldn’t have to wait until it happens!
How does one go about seeing a shrink? I know that there are more than just people who’ve had mental breakdowns that see shrinks.
I probably won’t be judged for this but I feel weird! Please help!
Just call the student center up and say you need to see a therapist.
They will take it from there.
Good for you for being proactive when it comes to how you are feeling. That is really cool, and is a sign that you are really growing up (the ability to recognize when you need help and then ask for it).
Good luck.
Peace.

Hi i also have thought about seeing a psychiatrist (as i have had several breakdowns on my own) but i didn’t really need one in the end. I’m happy i feel ok most of the time but i am happy when i see my friends. if you think you should see someone you probably should go ahead and do it, and you shouldn’t be self conscious anyone no one really cares about what you do in your own time unless its your friends. but your friends should be supportive of you anyway, unless of course you have those friends who constantly harass you about things you do, say, wear in which case i’d make sure they didnt find out. If you think you need to GO.

It’s exactly the same as going to any other kind of specialist. Just call and make an appointment. And please don’t wait until you’re suicidal; that defeats the whole purpose of him being there. I’m sure he doesn’t want you to wait until you’re in crisis to call. Now is the time to do it.
Good luck

nobody knows what your making an apointment for and you can always make something up when schedualing at the front dest like a comment about career advice and what others think or what ever you feel apropiate for the moment.they don,t care at the front desk about people making apiontmentsthey do them all day long and the counsler can not discus your problem nomatter what it is to any one or he violates a very followed rule that can cost him his job.they listen to people there whole career.
