i’ve written my essay, now i just need help coming up with a conclusion paragraph! here’s what i have –

Every single year, over 400,000 people die in the United States from smoking cigarettes. Although many smokers claim that it helps them as an appetite suppressant, releases their anxiety, or it just simply makes them look cool, the many negative effects smoking brings always outweigh the positive. These effects are especially harmful on the smoker’s health, appearance, and can even be dangerous for those in his or her vicinity.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that smoking cigarettes is the leading cause of terminal lung disease and can lead to assorted cancers, coronary heart disease, strokes and diminished blood circulation. Smoking can also make something as simple as just breathing a problematic task for someone. People who smoke cigarettes often have coughing fits, even when they are not actually smoking. Furthermore, it is tough to quit smoking. Nicotine is an enslaving drug and giving it up can lead to unpleasant symptoms of withdrawal. Smokers who have recently kicked the habit are usually contentious or bitter, may shake a lot and receive terrible headaches.

Along with being poisonous to the person’s health, smoking cigarettes also conveys unattractive results to the smoker’s appearance. It’s no secret that smoking will cause someone’s breath to smell like an ashtray, and then go on to make their clothing and belongings smell like one too. Not only will it make their breath smell disgusting, but it will stain their teeth and eventually make them fall out as well. After the smoker’s mouth has begun to deteriorate, then there’s the defective aftermath the skin on their face has to deal with. Smoking heightens a person’s risk of developing wrinkles on his or her face, and a 2008 Israeli study published in the International Journal of Dermatology found that facial wrinkling was more likely to be seen among smokers than among non-smokers.

Now that the smoker is having difficulty with his or her own physical and mental wellness, there are the people around them to worry about. According to the U.S. Surgeon General, breathing other people’s smoke, known as secondhand smoke, can reduce a person’s lifespan. Secondhand smoke also causes cancers and respiratory diseases in both children and adults. In fact, secondhand smoke often consists of more cancer-causing and lethal chemicals than those encountered in the smoke a person inhales themselves. Smoking can even have a negative effect on someone who hasn’t been born yet. If a pregnant woman smokes during her pregnancy or draws in someone else’s smoke regularly, she can pass undesired prenatal diseases to the developing infant.

The most effective conclusions very briefly summarize your main point (thesis), and what you presented in the body. To end off, you could have a rhetorical question which will leave the reader thinking, a call to action that will make the reader want to do something about the issue you described, etc. There are lots of ways to wrap it all up, so don’t get caught up thinking there’s a particular right or wrong way.
