Does asking an employee if they have a mental health problem violate HIPPA?

The employee is doing a heath and wellness check. The job does require handling fire arms.
I’m betting that’s a federal law. It’s legal to ask, It’s your call how you anwer it and what happens from there. YOU are free to disclose.
