Mental Health and Wellness Archives

I don’t know what to do or why I am so sensitive. I just know that it’s gotten to the point where I can’t cope with any kind of bad news. Whether it be something about a child being mistreated (this is the worst and hardest thing for me to deal with) or someone going hungry, or even something that happens on the other side of the planet, I get sick with worry for these people.

I know I’m just one person and I’m certainly not God and can’t help people I don’t even know exist, but it’s getting ridiculous and my own health and mental wellness is at stake. I look at other people who hear bad news and just shrug it off and I don’t understand. Me, I can’t eat and I worry about it for days or weeks.

Does anyone have any advice about how to cope? I would see a psychologist but I don’t have insurance and can’t afford to go, so please don’t suggest that. Thanks for your help.

Just do what you can and ask GOD to do the rest and you can also pray for yourself that he give you peace

Weed and hormones/acne, help?

For those of you who will come here and say that marijuana has no affect on hormones… I’ll go as far to agree it may not significantly affect it long term. But there is a drop in testosterone for 24 hours after smoking one joint.

Well.. I’ve been smoking weed casually from 16-18 and from 19-21 its been crazily out of control. Anywhere from a gram to 3 a day. Anywhere from 5 spliff and or 1-4 blunts a day.. I’ve also seen acne come as well as my life spin out of control because of the prevalent skin problem/overuse of weed.

So, I’m putting a halt to it. I know it how this all has changed me, so you don’t need to tell me :)

My question is… If weed causes a 24 hour depressed testosterone level and I’ve smoked all the time for around 3 years now… Could this hormone imbalance from smoking cause skin problems/delayed puberty/hampered gym results? and of course you can just add all the side affects of weed on the list too lmao.

Both weed and acne have controlled and destroyed my life (I won’t get into how and or why, it just has). Some may say it’s not an excuse, well its my truth and it’s one truth I’m no longer going to accept.

My second question is could this all be a linked chain of destruction?
Weed helping and or causing my skin problem, which in return ****s up my mental and emotional wellness. While weed also and now more lack of fitness/proper diet (yes i know acne from here too) has ****ed up my physical health.

Could the combination of these two be a huge source of my… unhappiness, not being where I want to be (though its all in my head), not following though, etc… I know the answer is yes, I just want to hear peoples opinions on this.

I as a weed smoker everyday several times a day will agree with you to a point. i don’t think the acme is due to the weed however based on what you eat to control the hunger you get from weed. i know the testosterone level drops a lot and will continue to be low until you purge your body of it. i don’t agree that weed is the reason your not where you want to be. i am very happy in my life and i smoke a lot. its all about moderation and control. you can still be who you want to be and keep weed in your life if you want to however the economic value will probably be the same unless you move to where it is more plentiful or cut down your usage. i feel your looking for an out as to why you feel and act the way you do and all though weed may be a contributing factor its not the main cause. the main cause is you

help with conclusion for an essay?

i’ve written my essay, now i just need help coming up with a conclusion paragraph! here’s what i have –

Every single year, over 400,000 people die in the United States from smoking cigarettes. Although many smokers claim that it helps them as an appetite suppressant, releases their anxiety, or it just simply makes them look cool, the many negative effects smoking brings always outweigh the positive. These effects are especially harmful on the smoker’s health, appearance, and can even be dangerous for those in his or her vicinity.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that smoking cigarettes is the leading cause of terminal lung disease and can lead to assorted cancers, coronary heart disease, strokes and diminished blood circulation. Smoking can also make something as simple as just breathing a problematic task for someone. People who smoke cigarettes often have coughing fits, even when they are not actually smoking. Furthermore, it is tough to quit smoking. Nicotine is an enslaving drug and giving it up can lead to unpleasant symptoms of withdrawal. Smokers who have recently kicked the habit are usually contentious or bitter, may shake a lot and receive terrible headaches.

Along with being poisonous to the person’s health, smoking cigarettes also conveys unattractive results to the smoker’s appearance. It’s no secret that smoking will cause someone’s breath to smell like an ashtray, and then go on to make their clothing and belongings smell like one too. Not only will it make their breath smell disgusting, but it will stain their teeth and eventually make them fall out as well. After the smoker’s mouth has begun to deteriorate, then there’s the defective aftermath the skin on their face has to deal with. Smoking heightens a person’s risk of developing wrinkles on his or her face, and a 2008 Israeli study published in the International Journal of Dermatology found that facial wrinkling was more likely to be seen among smokers than among non-smokers.

Now that the smoker is having difficulty with his or her own physical and mental wellness, there are the people around them to worry about. According to the U.S. Surgeon General, breathing other people’s smoke, known as secondhand smoke, can reduce a person’s lifespan. Secondhand smoke also causes cancers and respiratory diseases in both children and adults. In fact, secondhand smoke often consists of more cancer-causing and lethal chemicals than those encountered in the smoke a person inhales themselves. Smoking can even have a negative effect on someone who hasn’t been born yet. If a pregnant woman smokes during her pregnancy or draws in someone else’s smoke regularly, she can pass undesired prenatal diseases to the developing infant.

The most effective conclusions very briefly summarize your main point (thesis), and what you presented in the body. To end off, you could have a rhetorical question which will leave the reader thinking, a call to action that will make the reader want to do something about the issue you described, etc. There are lots of ways to wrap it all up, so don’t get caught up thinking there’s a particular right or wrong way.

"mental health"???????????

I’m a junior in high school, and I have a question. I’ve been looking at a lot of organizations, most of which support teen suicide prevention, which of course is an amazing and admirable and well worth supporting cause. But all the websites promote "mental wellness" and stuff in teens…

I have some really bad problems with anger, and when I am really angry I have some thoughts that scare me (not suicidal). I got so angry and upset with my dad that I sort of ran away this summer, I didn’t have any plan to never come back or anything, I didn’t really plan it at all, I just sort of did it. It only lasted a day though..I also get depressed and I get caught up in stupid stuff about my life, and even though I lost a lot of poundage two years ago I’m constantly worrying about my weight and I don’t eat very much anymore at all (not like eating disorder status, just a lot less than most kids my age.) I have a weird social life; I have a good amount of friends but I’m just starting to change it, because I went to a different school freshman year and I get frustrated with the girls who were my core group of friends last year…for the most part they’re really apathetic and we never hang out because they’d rather stay home by themselves, when I want to go have fun and I like people.

So those are a lot of my issues. It sounds pretty bad in writing, but I find that a lot of kids have lives with problems sort of like this or just problems of their own. I find that I deal with it a lot better if I just stay present and take life as it comes, which is what I’m trying to do. And there are plenty of times when I’m just happy; I’m talking to someone I like or doing something I enjoy and you know, I’ll just feel happy like anyone else.

So I was wondering if there’s really such thing as being "mentally healthy". Is there anyone who is just happy, and doesn’t have to deal with stuff like this? I feel like it’s kind of a myth to just be "happy" period. The only thing is, I’ve only got fifteen years of insight…anyone think I’m right? Wrong? I really want to hear other perspectives.

Yes, being mentally healthy is definitely possible. The thing is, bad things will always happen-that’s the nature of life but an emotionally healthy person will have good coping mechanisms and negative events and periods don’t have to drag a person’s whole life down generally.

I do know people who have very good luck, starting with being born into very wealthy, stable family lives which gave them a good start to life, they went to good school then good universities and don’t have to money worries. Some people don’t like to initiate change in their life and stay in their comfort zone. That also reduces going through tough times as they don’t expose themselves to challenging situations which have potential to cause stress or go wrong. No one can avoid bad times fully though.

Many people experience mild mental health problems during their life and overcome it. Even with severe and enduring mental illness people can learn to manage symptoms and have a good quality of life in spite of them.

At your age the things you talk about experiencing are perfectly normal, so don’t worry. You talk about about your technique of coping with things so keep on with that. Just enjoy and make the most of good times. Talk to someone responsible you trust if you need support. Things will become more settled as you get older :)

Is society a positive or negative influence in these dimensions of health? Support your decision by explaining the ways society influences people.

The household you grow up in makes all the difference. If you live in a household which encourages right and is there for you, most things will be well in your life. But if the media, not your family, is your view on the world, you grow up seeing violence, murder, and other nasties, never really being told that they are wrong. Society influences people like a potter influences clay. If he takes the time to mold it into something great, and bakes it in an oven, then you will have something great. But if he leaves his half-creation in the elements, and lets it bake while being rained on, leaves blowing into it, getting all muddy; then he will have half, no- a quarter- of the creation that he could have had.
